THE LOOP

The Loop is guaranteed to be fast off the line, fun and furious on LAKE TAHOE Donner Lake as competitors navigate a one or two lap paddle course. Registration includes lunch, and pre-registration closes Friday, JULY 25 May 30th at 3 pm.  Race day registration is available for an additional fee.

The Loop is the first race in the 2020 Tahoe Waterman Paddle Race Series. The Loop takes place on the pristine waters of LAKE TAHOE, IN CARNELIAN BAY Donner Lake in beautiful Truckee, California. Surrounded by gorgeous peaks, Donner Lake is a hidden treasure for paddlers, scenic, and fast and It is a freshwater lake in Northeast California on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada, and just minutes from historic downtown Truckee, CA.

LOCATION

Day-of registration and the race start at West End Beach on Donner Lake, Truckee, CA. WATERMANS LANDING

FORMAT

There are three races available: the Single Loop, the Double Loop, and the Grom race.

  • Grom (1-mile - 1.6 km): The under-12 race is a 1-mile loop starting and ending on West End Beach.

  • One-Loop (4.5 mile - 7.25 km): The race format includes one 4.5-mile, circular, buoy-marked loop on the lake running counterclockwise. Racers start in the water on their craft and finish on the water between the finish buoys.

  • Two-Loop (9 mile - 15 km): The race format includes two 4.5-mile, circular, buoy-marked loops running counterclockwise. Racers start in the water on their craft and finish on the water between finish buoys.

 

EXPERIENCE LEVEL AND CRAFT TYPES

The Loop is suitable for all levels of paddlers and paddle craft, including outrigger (OC1, OC2, and OC6), surf ski (1 and 2-person), stand-up paddleboard (SUP), and prone paddleboards. Team outrigger racing (OC6) will find the Two-Loop format an excellent chance to set a PR over 9 miles on a fast and technical course. 

 

SPECIAL SAFETY NOTE

Donner Lake LAKE TAHOE is an alpine mountain lake at 6000 6200 feet of elevation and we suggest practicing smart mountain safety. Plan to check weather conditions for race day temperature and winds. Plan to dress appropriately.  

REGISTRATION

Register online (here at PaddleGuru) or on-site on race day. There is an additional fee for race morning registration.

PARKING 

There is ample free parking at the event site. Navigate to WATERMANS LANDING West End Beach of Donner Lake, and follow the signs for parking when you arrive.

RACE FEE (including a celebration meal served after the race and before the award ceremony)

  • Individual Participant | One-Loop Course: $45

  • Individual Participant | Two-Loop Course: $45

  • Individual kid Participant | Grom Course: $10

  • 2-Person Teams (OC2 or Double Surf Ski) | One-Loop Course: $45 per person

  • 2-Person Teams (OC2 or Double Surf Ski) | Two-Loop Course: $45 per person

  • 6-Person Teams (OC6) $125 per crew

  • NOTE: Race-day Registration is an additional $20 per person
